Full Moon Rising

“Full Moon Rising” is an early chapter in my upcoming memoir, Changing Woman Speaks: From Lost to Found in the Navajo Beauty Way. We’re about to begin a baby blessing ceremony in California for my niece’s newborn, but the godmother is not allowed to come in because she’s on her moon cycle. Tensions arise in the non-native circle because they don’t understand why she’s not welcome, and the woman feels disrespected.

The sacredness and power of a woman’s moon cycle are explained through the teachings of Changing Woman, the Navajo diety of this Earth plane. As the powerful energies of a woman’s moon cycle are acknowledged, we learn how the bleeding time of month is not compatible with a ceremony praying for the delicate energies of a newborn. It is these teachings and more that are explained in this chapter.
